This weekend we decided to go on a day time bar crawl through the Northern Quarter, during this bar crawl we visited some of my favourites, and also some places we hadn't visited before.
We had never been to Fitzgerald but I have to say that we enjoyed it here the most. As the name would suggest this place is in the style of a prohibition era speakeasy and it is a style I am very fond of. At Fitzgerald they are fully committed to this theme; the pictures on the wall, the cocktails, the menus and even the way the staff dress all make you feel like you have stepped directly into the 's.
We were lucky enough to fitzgerald bar manchester before it got too busy and whilst it was happy hour so we
fitzgerald bar manchester to try a good few cocktails including a new one called Mockingbird was fantasticwe followed it up fitzgerald bar manchester a Hendricks High Tea.
All the drinks were great and the cocktails were theatrical enough to make it stand out from other bars. All in all I could not
fitzgerald bar manchester it, we had a excellent time here and the drinks were delicious. We will be back again for sure. My absolute favourite bar in Manchester but during the week rather than the weekend! I've always loved a speakeasy and am a big fan of electro swing at the moment so when I first found the Fitzgerald I was so excited. The cocktails are great and the bar staff are always willing to help out with flavours.
I fell in love with the Sazerac because of this place! They have a black and white movie on a wall from a projector and great music all the time with the comfiest of sofas to relax in with a drink.
Just a fantastic mix and such an easy going atmosphere that I have literally spent hours in. I hired the place out for a making class for a birthday gift for a friend and it was just amazing fun.
I've been more times than I can count but now I'm in Edinburgh I do miss the place! Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place before. Upstairs takes you to a lavish setting. Victorian pictures decorate the dark gilded walls while inviting purple velvet sofas beckon you.
fitzgerald bar manchester offer weird and wonderful cocktails built more on giving the drinker a show than a thirst quenching drink. Once the fog has lifted it uncovered three glasses filled with Violet liquid which tasted of palmaviolets I would come her for one drink and to gawk at the interesting decor.
The first time I went into The Fitzgerald in the Northern Quarter was for some drinks with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day last year. Since then, I think the venue has somewhat risen in popularity and their drinks have reduced in size, but I still like it - a lot! The interior setup is intended to evoke the feeling of a prohibition-era "speakeasy", with dim lighting and olde-timey cocktail menus. It's not very difficult find or enter though, sadly, so it's not so much of a "hidden gem" any more and rather a quality cocktail bar which can get quite busy.
Whenever I'm in here, I always have to go for a South Side - a cocktail made with gin and lime, inspired by Al Capone and his gangsters apparently. Even when they're not on offer, though, the drinks here would easily give other cocktail bars a run for their money and are comparatively priced. The bar staff have always been and friendly, with some shaker-based showmanship thrown in for fitzgerald bar manchester measure.
There is one thing, though, which just stops The Fitz from getting a top rating and that is the fact that they - for whatever reason - allow people to reserve tables. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not inherently biased towards a first-come first-served system for tables. Reservations are fine for restaurants or larger establishments like a Wetherspoons, but The Fitz is not fitzgerald bar manchester large bar or a restaurant.
Yet, on the Thursday evening I ventured in, of the 3 tables which were empty only one was not reserved and that had no chairs at it so you had to stand. A minor grievance, mind, and one which certainly won't and hasn't put me fitzgerald bar manchester going back as I'm rather fond of this place. Prohibition style bar and drinks meaning: The place had live music considered high-quality electronic elevator music and was pretty crowded when we went - exactly what I was looking for in a night out.
The Fitzgerald is not even slightly
fitzgerald bar manchester speakeasy as it has a giant obvious door with a street sign, but it does have fitzgerald bar manchester nice decor and atmosphere. Cocktails were universally excellent - I adored the Lemon Meringue Pie which came with a toasted topping, the Vesper was as lethal as it was smooth, the Aviatrix came with a violet "fog" which was one of the best drink gimmicks I've ever come across and the remaining drinks we had featuring mint and campari from the first page I can't remember their names were also brilliant.
Service was a bit slow at times and they totally messed up the bill but the servers were all extremely nice and friendly, it's not a snooty place at all. I really like Fitzgeralds. When friends suggest meeting there, I always think "great, I love this place".
Fitzgerald bar manchester never remember to actually arrange to meet anyone there myself. This review is based on my last visit, which was on a busy Saturday night. As seems to happen a lot these days, I was double booked. My first engagement was a "leaving Manchester" do at someone's flat, starting at 6. I arrived at Fitzgeralds for my friend's 40th birthday drinks at around 8. I was surprisingly not drunk, especially given that I have recently finished fitzgerald bar manchester January.
More tipsy and overly chatty really. And I am chatty when sober as those who have met me will attestso imagine
fitzgerald bar manchester after that much drink! He was friendly though and seemed to me in good humour. I liked him until a friend, who is 6 years older than me, arrived and said she had been asked for ID, yet I was not asked. Might be one to in mind for those lucky enough to look young clearly not including myself in that comment might want to take ID with them.
When I got to the bar, it was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday and I was served pretty much straight away. I fitzgerald bar manchester for an Old Fashioned.
They have a Fitzgerald's version but not wanting to veer away from a classic, I asked for a normal one and woman happily obliged.
She made the sugar crushing bit look
fitzgerald bar manchester I have tried the sugar crushing on occasion and it took me ages. The bartender informed me that they had run out of lemon juice and used lime instead. I have to say it is a nice twist and would be tempted, next time, to ask them to use lime over lemon. For those who like to try something a bit fitzgerald bar manchester, may be worth a go.
The place had a really good vibe about it and quite laid back for a Saturday. There was a mixture of people although didn't seem to be any one really young in there. In terms of dress, there fitzgerald bar manchester people in trainers, people like me a bit dressed up, so it's the sort of place you can wear what you feel comfortable in.
Overall a big fan of the place and need to remember it more often! Certainly recommend a visit if you've not been. I visited The Fitzgerald this weekend with a couple of friends, and we absolutely loved it!
It's quite dark inside, with prohibition style decor, old Betty Boop cartoons running on a projector and great electro fitzgerald bar manchester music that isn't too loud so you can chat away.
My partner is a bartender and we are quite picky when it comes to our cocktails. The Fitzgerald had some fitzgerald bar manchester the best we've had in a long time, as well as a very friendly bartender. If you're a fan of good quality, interesting cocktails, I would definitely recommend giving this place a go.
We went here for a friends birthday party, we'd originally planned to going to Whiskey Jar but it was far too busy to accommodate all six of us.
fitzgerald bar manchester was just about enough room fitzgerald bar manchester the bar for us all here. Possibly as everyone was queuing for Tiki Lounge downstairs. The staff here are amazing, I couldn't believe the speed and precision with which they made our fitzgerald bar manchester, and what drinks they were. Lemon meringue with real toasted meringue and a spoon to eat it with!
A lovely twist on the classic bramble, and something else that tasted exactly like a cherry bakewell! I must
fitzgerald bar manchester sure to visit again when there's live music on offer, and try one of the teapot cocktails. Came here for the new Wednesday open mic night. Saw four or performers and they all first class! I think it's going to become a very popular Wednesday night.
The velvet gin cocktail was excellent fitzgerald bar manchester moretti's for 3 quid was very reasonable. Great ambiance and very friendly crowd. They also had a silent movie playing
fitzgerald bar manchester the background I couldn't take my eyes off it Cocktail served in a suitcase I'm having one off them wired surreal dreams right.
Let get with it then, Fitzgerald is a lovely place - it dons itself in regalia of the 's and the staff are friendly, know there stuff and understand that if you give me a cocktail list that long I will need some time. Put it this way
fitzgerald bar manchester the of place I think even my grandma wouldn't mind hanging out in which isn't a problem, it's just how it is music has always been a good mix of classic soul, hiphop and tunes you haven't heard for ages - plus they have an open mic jazz night on a Thursday which I really must get down to check out soon.
I hear from female friends that the cocktails are pretty special and I'm usually pretty happy with the Goose Island IPA ad Brooklyn they do - although there's nothing too adventurous in terms of beer on offer.
