The Editors regret that there has been unavoidable delay in the production of this volume ; but they feel confident that Minty Wiltshire Karte subscribers will exonerate them when the many and various duties which fall to the lot of the clergy in country districts, and the extent to which this work is dependent upon the good offices of the clergy, are considered.
Another cause of delay has been the regretted death of Mr. Abraham Coleman, of Swindon, whose interest in, and knowledge of, the Registers of his own was most valuable to the Editors, and whose help was freely and constantly given. Coleman had undertaken the collation of the transcript of the Chisledon Marriages at the time of his last illness.
This volume contains the Marriage Registers of seven parishes ; four of which commence in the sixteenth century, and three in the seventeenth, making in all Minty Wiltshire Karte three Wiltshire parishes, the Marriages of which have now been printed. Salisbury, the Cathedral vii. VI Thanks are due to the Rev. Percy Minty Wiltshire Karte, the Rev. Sturton, and the Rev.
Symonds, who have made transcripts of their own or other Registers ; to Mr. Parry, and to Mr. Baker for the transcription of the Marriages at Chisledon, Beechingstoke, and Idmiston respectively. The Editors desire to thank the clergy who have so kindly allowed these transcripts to be made and printed.
Their names are mentioned under the respective parishes. The next volume will contain the Marriage entries in the Register of St. Marriages at Chisledon, to The Registers before are contained in six volumes. The first, Minty Wiltshire Karte 14 in. Some leaves are loose ; there are several blank spaces in the early part of the book and large piece has been cut out the first page. The volume commences with the yearand the last Marriage entry is dated 26 Feb- ruary From to there are no entries, and as there are apparently no leaves missing, the gap must be attributed to neglect.
Volume IV is made up of the usual printed forms. It is fairly written, and contains entries of Banns from 3 November to 1 Junethen Marriages from 16 October to 19 Juneand, lastly, Marriages from 18 July to 29 September Minty Wiltshire Karte V is a similar book, containing Marriages from 22 October to 19 Novemberand, in the latter part of the book, the Banns.
Volume VI is foolscap size, parchment leaves, in good condition and leather bound. It contains entries of Baptisms and Burials from to These transcripts have been made by Mr. Moulder, with the kind permission of the Rev. Waugh, Vicar of Chisledon, and Curate-in-Charge of Draycot, by whose permission also they are printed. A leaf has apparently been cut out which may have contained the entries for ; there were Baptisms and Burials

Salisbury is in the southeast of Wiltshire, near the edge of Salisbury Plain. Salisbury Cathedral was formerly north of the city at Old Sarum. Following the cathedral's relocation, a settlement grew up around it which received a city charter in as New Sarum , which continued to be its official name until when Salisbury City Council was established.
